01
Challenge
Backend proof of concept for real-time communication between digital clients and internal services inside an enterprise platform. Validate a real-time gateway capable of maintaining WebSocket connections, organising users into rooms and distributing events to connected clients. The PoC had to coordinate connection state, broadcasting across multiple instances and communication with internal services, while remaining reproducible to run and test locally.
02
Solution
Separate connection management from event exchange, use Redis pub/sub to propagate messages between instances and gRPC for internal contracts, with Micrometer observability and Kubernetes-ready delivery.
03
Work delivered
Contributions to Atmosphere-based WebSocket infrastructure, room and session management, Redis/gRPC integration, Spring Cloud configuration, and documented local execution and test scenarios.
04
Outcome
The PoC validated connection management and event exchange across instances with a documented, repeatable local environment.

Project highlights
- Worked on WebSocket infrastructure for connecting users to rooms and keeping connection state controlled.
- Contributed to Redis pub/sub integration for cross-instance broadcasting and gRPC communication with other backend services.
- Helped document and validate local test flows so the service was easier to run, review and evolve.
